Mr Faisal Hussain
Training and Qualifications
I was appointed as a full time consultant in orthopaedic surgery at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham and Edgbaston in August 2008. My special interests include knee and shoulder surgery as part of the arthroscopy team (key hole surgery).
My undergraduate training was at the London teaching hospital Charing Cross and Westminster medical school qualifying in 1993. I gained my specialist training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery based at the University of Leicester teaching hospitals, Trent training programmme. I went on to achieve dual fellowship training in knee and shoulder surgery.
Specialist Areas
The management of young osteoarthritic knees is my special interest with procedures such as tibial and femoral osteotomy, articular cartilage repair surgery and unicompartmental knee replacements. The management of sports injuries was a focus of my fellowship training and I perform ACL reconstructions, complex knee multi ligament reconstruction, and arthroscopic meniscal repair. I also gained experience in patella realignment procedures including patello-femoral ligament reconstructions.
I have performed mini incision total knee replacements as well as complex primary and revision knee arthroplasty surgery. The other half of my practice is dealing with shoulder problems ranging from shoulder joint replacements to arthroscopic procedures for impingement, instability and stiffness. I work closely with sports physiotherapists to deal with sports injuries.
