Mr Martyn Snow is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, which is one of only five purely Orthopaedic Hospitals in the country. He is a graduate of Edinburgh University and undertook his Registrar training in the Manchester region. After completion of his training, he spent 18 months on fellowship in North America. He spent 12 months in Halifax, Nova Scotia, undertaking a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Sports Medicine Clinic of Nova Scotia. He subsequently spent six months at the Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre in Toronto, gaining further experience in Shoulder and Knee surgery.
In 2008 Mr Snow was awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society North American travelling fellowship. This enabled him to spend a further four weeks visiting some of the world's foremost shoulder surgeons in major centres such as New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio and Houston.
He has over 30 publications in various International medical journals, has written two book chapters on knee and shoulder injuries and has presented over 50 papers at various national and International meetings. In 2007 he was recognised by the European Trauma Society, and awarded a prize for the best scientific paper published that year.
In 2006 he completed an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University. Mr Snow has since designed his own fixation device for use in ACL reconstruction, which is currently in the final stages of prototype testing before going into production.
Mr Snow’s interests include all aspects of shoulder surgery. In particular, arthroscopic procedures such as rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilisations, capsular release for frozen shoulder and ACJ injuries. He also performs shoulder replacement for arthritis of the shoulder.
He has a major interest in sporting injuries of the knee, including Anterior and Posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. He treats all aspects of cartilage injuries in the young adult, using the full spectrum of cartilage regeneration techniques, osteotomy, Unicondylar and total knee replacement.
